The Fine Clock

About The Fine Clock

This site exists because Irish fixed charge notices are widely explained and rarely sourced. Every number here traces to a named provision of a named instrument, and where the source is unclear the page says that instead of guessing.

Sources

Where every number here comes from

Two places, and no others. Amounts come from the statutory instrument that sets them — S.I. No. 227 of 2024 — as published on the Irish Statute Book. Everything in the Acts, including the payment windows and the penalty point thresholds, comes from the consolidated Revised Acts published by the Law Reform Commission.

Nothing here is taken from a summary, a news article or another site. Where a public body publishes a restatement of the law, that restatement is not used as a source for a figure.

Two things this site does that most do not

It separates what is law from what is merely enacted. The consolidated Acts print some provisions twice — once as they stand, once as they would read if an amendment were commenced — and where the amendment never was, the second version is not law. 15 rows of the penalty points Schedule are excluded here for that reason, and several widely-quoted speed limits are not shown because the sections that would introduce them have not been commenced.

It says when the law is silent. Ireland's statute book states no speed measurement tolerance. That is written on the pages where a reader would look for one, rather than left as a gap they might fill from somewhere else.

Status

This site is not signed off, and says so

Every figure carries a research status. That means it has been read from a primary source and cited, but not yet confirmed by a reviewer of record. The preview banner at the top of every page says the same thing. When that changes, this page will say when and by whom.

This site does not invent a company particular. The rows marked above stay blank until the operator supplies them.

Every figure is sourced to a named provision of a named instrument, with the citation beside it.
